I've been visiting Axia since it practically opened. The decor is great. The new menus look nice and clean, as opposed to the old huge ones , which I mentioned to the waitress. The food is great every time, though service isn't what it used to be. What brings me back every time is the craving i have for the food, although portion sizes used to be much larger. Pre-vegan, my favourite dishes were the general tao chicken and the sweet and sour chicken balls. Honorable mention goes to the chicken pad thai, and the curry chicken pad thai. Post-vegan leaves me not much choice, other than the veggie pad thai and the curry veggie pad thai, hold the eggs on both! As for drinks, green apple bubble tea with green apple jelly usually does it for me: so good! *The curry pad thai dishes don't appear on the menu so you'll have to ask for a special order.
We all had a wonderful time. Lots of selection, my wife is a picky eater, but she seems to agree with the food here. Not the cheapest place around, but definitely good value for your dollar. Food was great, service was friendly... clean restrooms... umm... can't think of any complaints. Will definitely return!
We had a major birthday party here. 8 people. Everyone was pretty pleased. The decorations and design are great, food was consistent. Something rare in an Asian restaurant: Washrooms were very clean!!! We decided to share several plates instead of ordering individually. Sushi was fresh, sizzling plates were very good. Our waiter was a little new, he forgot a water and an appetizer but was very friendly and apologetic. This is my second visit, my wife and kids also approve.
It's a bad sign when you step into an Asian restaurant and see no Asians eating there. When I took a look at the menu, some of the items in the Chinese section were severely overpriced. You could get the same item in Chinatown for half the price. I figured that if I'm going to eat in a Pan-Asian restaurant, I'll eat something that I rarely get, so I got the Malaysian Chicken Curry. However, with respect to my other friends when they ordered their food, the server had no idea about the elements in the menu. Not only was the server misinformed, the service was unacceptably slow, and it wasn't even a busy night. We had to keep asking just to get a refill on water... about 15 minutes just to get a refill. One of my friends is allergic to wheat and wanted to have something from my girlfriend's sushi plate. My friend inquired about the piece she wanted to the server, if it contained wheat. The server said that he wasn't sure and would inquire. Throughout the whole meal, he forgot to ask, so my friend ended up not taking the item. When we went, the place wasn't even packed so I didn't see what the problem was. Also, their liquor menu is severely disorganized, and do not describe the ingredients of all of their drinks. My girlfriend asked what was in their Cherry Almond Cocktail, and the server had no idea what was in it, but replied that it "was a cocktail". In any case, my girlfriend got some sushi plates. The sushi was terrible. It wasn't prepared properly, and fell apart in her chopsticks as she was eating it. When she ordered tempura rolls, the tempura was cold and soggy, and they put some very weird "special" sauce on it, which ruined the taste all together. As for my Malaysian Curry, it was a bit mild for my taste, but it was good... up until I had to get up this morning. I had severe indigestion, and the curry was most likely the culprit. The curry was the last meal I had before I went to bed. This is the first time that I've had curry and had severe indigestion. The atmosphere was decent, but I didn't like the service. They were non-attentive and took too long to get very simple things. It took them 15 minutes to get our drinks from them, and another 10 minutes to get water. In any case, it is a place I will never visit again. There are many places in Chinatown where you can get better quality food, at a lower price. Axia - Never again.
We all had a wonderful time. Food was great, service was friendly, I honestly can't think of any complaints. Will definitely return!
