Forever a sweet tooth at heart, I have a continuously growing list of sweet spots in Vancouver to get my sugar fix. The city is home to so many incredible bakeries and decadent dessert places; so if you love your sugar as much as I do, be sure to keep the following locations on your must-visit list!
If you’re a macron fan, then you can’t miss out on Soirette Macaron & Tea! With an ever-changing menu to fit the season and holidays, Soirette is sure to indulge your sweetest cravings. This quaint little shop has a charming teahouse feel to it, making it a great location for a cup of tea with friends or a quiet spot to visit when you want to treat yourself. Be sure to stop in over the holidays to try their eggnog macaron – it’s delicious!
This French inspired pâtisserie in Fairview is a great spot to stop in for coffee and treats. Bring your laptop and stay a while to fully enjoy their unique and light-hearted bakery-meets-café atmosphere. Friendly staff, an unpretentious environment and delicious baked goods make Beacoup Bakery a local gem to keep on your must-try list.
Who doesn’t love sugar for breakfast? If you’re looking for a new yummy brunch spot to try, you’ll want to head to Nero Belgian Waffle Bar on Robson. Their yummy Brussels- and Liege-style waffles are sure to satisfy your sweet cravings. The waffles here come with delicious and decadent toppings such as vanilla ice cream or espresso-infused whipped cream. If you’re looking for something with a vibrant citrus flavour, try the orange mousse topping with fresh-cut orange segments and Belgian dark chocolate mousse.
Even if you’re not in the heart of Vancouver, there are still tons of yummy bakeshops around you; Cloud 9 bakery in New West is definitely one to keep on your radar. This bakery specializes in gluten-free treats, making it a great spot for those with dietary restrictions. Their gourmet vanilla and chocolate cupcakes are beyond delicious and come topped with various different naturally flavoured butter-cream icing options – I highly recommend the pistachio.
The best ice cream in town in my opinion, Earnest Ice Cream offers an array of unique and indulging flavours for dessert fans. Adding their signature artisanal twist to classic ice cream flavours, Earnest elevates the basics and turns them into something special. My personal favourite is lemon poppy seed.
If you haven’t heard of Cartems Donuterie, well you may be the only one. These gourmet doughnuts are considered to be among the best in the city. The modern atmosphere, delicious treats and friendly staff will make this Pender Street café a spot you’ll want to frequent again and again. Inventive doughnut flavours include Canadian whiskey bacon, Earl Grey, and salted caramel.
Alluringly good chocolates, macarons, and pastries make Thierry one of the best places in Vancouver to get your sugar fix. Their pretty pastel-coloured macarons are just one of the items that I can’t help but indulge in from time to time. I dare you to walk by Thierry without feeling the draw to stop in and treat yourself.
Lucky’s Doughnuts has long been known as one of Vancouver’s best doughnuts shops. You’ll find tempting display cases filled with their signature mouth-watering goodies tucked away inside the 49th Parallel locations in Kits and on Main Street. The doughnut menu features elevated takes on the classics (think PB&J and the ultimate old fashioned glazed), while also providing unique and seasonal flavours for the more adventurous at heart.
