Tara Miller found a way to use her passion for helping others live healthy while still being able to spend her summers in Muskoka “My family owns a cottage and a gas station there,” she says. “There was an old ice cream hut on the property. So I asked if I could put some of my favourite stuff in it and see how it goes.” She named her new shop the Health Hut and opened in 2011. Each summer she grew her customer base, and soon Tara opened a second small shop in Toronto, eventually moving her new Health Hut to a larger space on College Street. Even with the new store in Toronto, Tara she still opens every summer in that old ice cream hut in Muskoka.
Being a holistic nutritionist, Tara coaches an awareness of what goes into the body but also takes a look at what people put on their body. That’s what led her to explore organic beauty products, from bath and body to skin care, hair and makeup lines. “It was a growing industry, [but] I didn’t know that at the time,” Tara says. “I went in because I wanted to. It came from an authentic, genuine place.”
