If you’ve been wishing your favourite English pub were a little closer to home, you’re in luck. Bishop & Bagg now brings the best of some of Montreal’s west side pubs to the other side of the island.
The Burgundy Lion is a Montreal icon, and its success in Saint-Henri left the owners wondering what they could offer to pub-goers in other areas. The Mile End caught their eye, with its young and multicultural crowd, the very clientele known to frequent their pubs across town. Bishop & Bagg opened its doors in February of 2014 to offer Mile Enders the perfect place to grab a classic cocktail, chow down on authentic British fare and catch a game of English football all year round.
“The word pub comes from ‘public house,’” says Steven Owen, Bishop & Bagg’s operations manager and one of the co-owners. “A pub was originally an inn where people came to have a drink and enjoy a good meal. It was the focal point of a community and we wanted to recreate that same homey feel and country atmosphere here.” Just peek inside and you’ll see that the minds behind Bishop & Bagg knew just how to capture the colours, tastes and textures of the prototypical English pub and create a comfortable spot the locals would adore.
