A wonderful Quebecois bookstore is hidden away in Villeray. Formerly located in Mile End, L'Écume des Jours continues to advise bookworms at its new location. The shop is still visited by old customers and is now a destination for the community of Villeray as well.
Roger Chenier and his wife Maryse Dubois were booksellers for many years before they decided to venture into the world of owning a business. When asked why they chose to work together, Roger immediately says, "We work together because we trust each other."
There's a rather funny story behind L'Écume des Jours' beginnings. Roger walked by a bookstore and saw a book he wanted to buy in the window. Unfortunately, it looked like the shop was shut. He began to grow impatient, until he realized that the bookstore in St-Viateur was actually a movie set. With this image, and the lack of bookstore in Mile End in mind, Roger and Maryse decided to build something together.
