Had Breakfast here on Sunday. Two ordered "Famous" melts. Hashbrowns with a choice of ingredients. $11.99 Had before but today was served with greasy almost raw potatoes. White toast instead of brown and no beans. Service was not good. Waitress just dropped and ran. Their Bottomless $2 Coffee was not refilled. When waitress finally complained she took off the $4.95 regular breakfast. That way it only cost $33 for rotten food!
For months I've been hearing about how great the food is at The Gorge Country Kitchen, in Elora, Ontario. Everyone praises this place. Great home style food, big portions and a reasonable price. I thought perfect, sounds good, let's try it out.
We showed up Thursday for dinner. The restaurant was packed with locals. Old couples, farmers, families. Obviously, this place has something good going on. Our waitress was friendly, and quick to take our orders.
We chose Onion Rings, Hot Turkey Sandwich & Fish and Chips. Most of the food was below average. Frozen, out of the box and into the fryer. The french fries were the worst. Side vegetables, mush with no taste. Lack of gravy on the turkey sandwich, which left me with a large pile of dry meat. Bland onion rings and average fried fish.
Although service was fine, the food was not.
I have had the opportunity of servicing this family restraurant in the past and could always expect to be offered a free coffee during my visits. After leaving the area for another career, I found myself back in Elora for a business meeting and decided to visit my old contacts while there. I hadn't talked to anyone from the Gorge for a few years, but as soon as I sat down, I was offered that free coffee once again. This is why the Gorge Country Kitchen is such a great place to eat or just have a coffee, they always treat you like a family friend.
My problem with this restaurant is that the portions are too big and I never seem to get to the desserts. And that's good, n'est-ce pas. The menu is huge and there's something for everyone. I highly recommend the turkey dinner and it's a real deal for under $13.00.
Since moving to Elora my family and I have found The Gorge to be our favorite breakfast spot. The food is typical of a country breakfast spot with larger portions and cooked to order. The menu has a little bit of something for every taste. Try the Hungry Man if you plan on skipping lunch and get their early, as there is always a good size crowd after 9am on the weekends.
Great Food! We have been there a few times for Breakfast as well as Lunch and have never been disappointed. Whatever you seem to order they give you lots of and the services is good as well. I guess the only thing I could say that needs improvement is I find the chairs to be a little uncomfortable but nothing that would keep me away.
Been here a couple of times. Breakfasts are very good and so are dinner items. It's a family diner with a wide menu choice. Food seems fairly freshly prepared and consistent standard.
Particularly liked the corned beef breakfast. Pleasant enough atmosphere to the place with reasonably good service.

I have eaten at many restaurants and am selective at were I go. The overall appearance was good. The server did well, however when the meal was served, it was the worst most poorly prepared food I have ever had. The meat was completely raw. Although the restaurant replaced my meal, my appetite was ruined based on being served raw food and I was unable to proceed with the meal. At the end the management had no trouble still charging me for the food that I was unable to enjoy due to their incompetence. This is no way to treat a customer. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone and will personally never go back. Worst restaurant experience ever.
Went for dinner during a winter storm in the middle of the week and it was still packed. Got seated quickly and the waitress came by shortly after that to get our drink orders. Found it very difficult to select a meal from the number of items on the menu. Definitely made the right choice with the pasta though, I left very full and satisfied. The only negative about this restaurant would have to be the waitress who served us. She got very snotty with me because it took me awhile to decide on what I would like. She even proceeded to sit on the window ledge and wait until I had ordered. I really noticed her attitude towards me because she was super nice to my fiance and other customers. We will definitely be returning. We just hope for our next visit that we do not have the same waitress.
Our family goes to the Gorge Country Kitchen on special occassions. We like to try different dishes from the large
variety menu, each time. There has never been a complaint on any aspect of any of our experiences. What can we say, "what's not to love!? With bellies full and wallets in tack, we are sufficiently sufficed :-) Morning, noon or night, this is the place to enjoy good eating!!
In general a great place to eat. Food has always been excellent. Service good. Pricing fair. You can always tell a good place by the number of cars in the parking lot at meal times, this has many, especially on the weekends.
The breakfast was big filling and fresh (warm) unlike other places the food is sometime cold because one person in your party ordered something that takes longer to make.
The service was good some very friendly waitresses, but I must say the food was amazing and what is going to bring me back. After looking at the large menu I finally desided on what I wanted, and it was soooo good! (chicken melt is a good choice!) The portions are big and the price is right. If you are looking for a variety of food choices to accomodate everyone you are eating with this place is perect.
It's perfect for a night out with the family or with friends. 2 thumbs up!!!
I actually visit this restaurant 3-4 times a week. Always get lots to eat. Just prefer a family restaurant rather than one with atmosphere where you seem to get such small servings.It seems to me that you're paying for atmosphere only. But hey thats me and that's why it's nice that we have choices.

A group of us decided to head to Elora for a day trip. Once we had finished shopping in the small little town we decided to go for dinner. One of the local shop keepers raved about this great casual family dining restaurant. When we got there the staff was very friendly. You could feel the team atmophere which made the service warm and accomidating. We ordered our meals and they were unbelievable. So much food that we were unable to eat nearly half. But the food. Oh my goodness, it was delicious and the prices were extremely reasonable. Most resteraunts you have to sacrifice either the service, quality or price. This place you do not have to sacrifice anything. It has it all. I reccomend the Gorge Country Kitchen to all who love to get out and enjoy a wonderFULL Meal!
This is best restaurant in town, and area for that matter. The food was out of this world and the staff were the best i've seen. In response to "Mini Fritsoff" you must have your comments mixed up with another restaurant because what you said is absolutely false! Besides, how much credibility can you have when you don't even put your real name. Keep up the good work Gorge Country Kitchen!

I just had to comment on Mini Fritsoff' review. I'm sorry but you have no clue! I visited the Gorge Country Kitchen for the first time and everything was fabulous. The Wait-Staff was exceptional and the food was wonderful. So much great tasting food and the prices were Very Very reasonable. I eat out quite often and it is rare to find a place that has it all. I will definately be back. I'd also like to say to all at The Gorge Country Kitchen..........Keep up the good work!
