Friendly staff, innovative new menu with many healthy choices, plus hard-to-find venison-boar and bison burgers along with the old reliable family restaurant choices.
I work at Longshot's Sports Cafe in Deep River as a Cook, even so I am not afraid to give credit where credit is due. I freaking love the breakfast at the Bear's Den. I ate it in about 1 minute it was so good. I was surprised they give you homemade bread not just regular toast you get at most greasy spoons. I am pretty sure they are open for breakfast till 3pm which is awesome if you slept in and were hungover like I was.
OK so these reviewers must work at Bears Den..... because the food is NOT all that! I also got bacon bits on my Caesar Salad, not to bad mouth bacon bits... but they don't go on a Caesar salad! Wings were OK, nothing special, the food is average frozen boxed food, or thats how it tastes anyway. Not a lot of choices in Deep River, I guess the other reviewers don't get out much.
I can't believe somepeople can write a review from one bad night. Wing night is NUTS and I hate to tell you it's not the servers who have the "slow" factor... it's the Cooks who don't care! They have since gotten rid of all those people. The food is GREAT! We took my in-laws to the once monthly sunday night buffet and they LOVED it! Food melted in your mouth, service was wonderful even for a buffet! They have a selection for everyone! The food portions are massive... and yes the ceaser salad is PERFECT the way it is, if you don't like it.... then don't order it again! That's my modo!
Commenting on the post below... It's too bad you were at The Beard Den on an off day. The food is normally the best! And on a slow service day well worth the wait. Though I’m not sure why the cowboy had comment... as we are not a farming community in any way. Yes we are somewhat in the middle of nowhere. 2 hours in either direction to anywhere large. But out town is full of both scientists from AECL as well as proud military families. I did not grow up here but have come to love it. I hope one day you pass through again and give The Beard Den another chance. It is owned and run by 2 of the nicest people.
GREAT food, hopeful has no idea what he/she is talking about. Just some grouch looking to complain. My girlfriend has worked there for 4 years or so now. She is neither slow, "dumbish" or any other childish insult. The Thursdays are PACKED all because of how great the wings are. If your a Wing fan, go there, you will not regret it. The staff is all over 20 years of age, and more than capable of helping costumers who are polite. People need to remember its not the waitress' fault for slow food. The bar area is great compared to anything in the area, very nicely done. As for the ceasar salads, ask for no bacon, most people want bacon in it. You want great service go in on weekend mornings and ask for Amy to be your server, as i said before she, nor the other staff will be anything like Hopeful says. Then you can come back and comment on how wrong Hopeful really is.
Out of all the places that ive eaten breakfast this place was the worst. Eggs burnt and cold, black toast, bacon was like chewing on a tire and left feeling sick. But to be fair I wasnt wearing a cowboy hat.
I was very surprised by the wings. Best wings I've had in a very long tme. Crisp and full of flavour. Great beer on tap as well. Was nice to have non-domestic beer as a choice in this area. Service could be a little quicker. I will definately recommend this place.
Food was great, service was slow, the restaurant wasn't busy...however, the Bear's Den gives you that "homemade" feel.
We ordered the Curried Chicken Breast/Shrimp Skewer dinner special. (I also had a great lite beer on tap -- very refreshing.) The meal was superb, and the service very accommodating to allow me to share my meal with my grandson Cole. The meal included very tasty rice and mixed vegetables, and the portions of everything were very generous. The chicken melted in your mouth, and the shrimp were perfectly delicious. We each had a separate Caesar salad that couldn't have been more delicious. And when we returned for breakfast the following morning we found the food and service excellent again. We each had the two egg meal which came with home fries, toast, and choice of sausages or bacon. Our fried eggs were cooked perfectly to order and my bacon was perfectly crisp. They were happy to provide syrup for my grandson's sausages, as well as a refill for his chocolate milk.
