Relax and lose yourself in a kayak

November 1, 2015

Sometimes the trials and tribulations of everyday life can be overwhelming, and you just need to get away from it all. Spending time in the outdoors is a great way to do so. Even if you're not the outdoorsy type, kayaking can be a great escape for mental and physical health, natural discovery, fishing and adventure.

Plus, if you don't own a kayak, you can rent one for a change of pace.

Relax and lose yourself in a kayak

For mental and physical health

Find a pond, a lake, a river, it doesn't matter, all you need is a body of water in a natural setting and you're on your way to inner peace.

Along with being a way to get away from everyday pressures and relax, hopping in your kayak is a great way to stay in shape physically.

For example, if you bring a stop watch with you, you can push yourself to surpass your personal best time to get to the end of a pond and back.

Although you're just rowing your kayak, if you pour your all into this exercise you'll get back to shore gasping for air and wake up the next morning with a sore set of shoulders (the first time, at least, since you might not be used to using those muscles). You're also likely to find yourself aching to try beating your best time again.

Enjoying nature and fishing

For those who aren't in it for the exercise, there are others way to relax while enjoying kayaking.

Maybe you just want to let the river take you along with its current while you enjoy the quiet ambiance of nature.

Or, perhaps you could use your kayak to do some fishing.

Most kayaks have a holder for a fishing pole and plenty of space to bring a cooler and a tackle box as well. Just be sure to bring a fishing net along with you, or you are going have a hard time getting the fish off your hook and will have nowhere to put your catch but squarely in your lap.

Find adventure in a kayak

If none of those kayaking suggestions suit your style, then go to a body of water that you're not familiar with and frame your kayaking expedition as an adventure.

Challenge yourself to see the aspects of nature that no one else gets to see. Bring your camera on board and get those sought after shots that every photographer dreams of.

With all of these possibilities, chances are, you can find something to float your boat in a kayak.
