Just because you live in a country that’s chilly most of the year, it doesn’t mean you can’t grow young plants. All you need is a greenhouse and advice on how to build one. These steps will help you on your way.
A greenhouse, also known as a glasshouse or hothouse, is mostly made of transparent materials like glass where plants that need regulated climatic conditions to grow.
You can pick up a snazzy pre-fab greenhouse at a garden centre but you’ll pay a pretty penny for it. Fortunately, it's easy to make your own portable shelter for young plants.
All you need to buy is some clear plastic sheeting, four 45-centimetre lengths of rebar (steel reinforcing rods used for concrete) and some concrete-reinforcing mesh.
The mesh looks like wire fencing, typically comes in1.5-metre widths in rolls or panels, and is available from hardware stores and lumberyards.
You won’t have to take out a second mortgage to have a greenhouse to get your seedlings going. Being portable, you can move your greenhouse from place to place to cover the pats of your yard that are most in need. Follow these easy steps for an effective structure and, with care, you young plant will thrive.
