Where to find sweet treats in Steveston Village

Steveston is often considered a destination for fish and chips, ice cream and a stroll along Fisherman’s Wharf. What you might not know is that many businesses in the seaside village offer all kinds of tasty treats: from mini doughnuts to cupcakes, French pastries, Belgian waffles, artisan chocolates, pies and cakes, oh my…. these goodies put the wind in my sail!

Bell's Bake Shop

1
12211 1st Ave, Richmond, BC V7E 3M3

Likely the hippest baker in town, Jen Bell sports tattoos and exudes a retro vibe. Her bakeshop has been a growing success since it first opened in 2010. Customers have the choice to dine in the butter yellow bakery or take their order home. Classic cupcake flavours include devil’s food cake, cookies and cream, and red velvet, which are all showcased alongside daily specials. Hold a birthday party at Bell’s and try the giant cupcake that serves 10 to 12 people. Now that’s a cupcake!

Damien's Belgian Waffles Ltd

2
2-3891 Chatham St, Richmond, BC V7E 2Z6

Damien’s Belgian Waffles sells a Liege waffle, which is smaller, sweeter and denser than the traditional Belgian waffle. Available in two sizes, mini and regular, the dark and milk chocolate are my personal favourites. Try a mixed bag for the full experience. They never last long when I bring them home!

Outpost Mini Donut Co

3
110-12240 2nd Ave, Richmond, BC V7E 3L8

While some people associate mini doughnuts with a certain summer fair, Outpost’s gourmet versions can be found year round in Steveston. The interior feels like a rustic cabin, complete with a fireplace and comfy couch. The warm and tasty cake-based morsels come in five flavours (cinnamon sugar, chocolate, maple, powdered sugar and vanilla) with an additional five seasonal doughnuts added to the menu. Bet you can’t leave without a baker’s dozen!

Steveston Bakery Ltd

12231 No. 1 Rd, Richmond, BC V7E 1T6

Locals can usually be found hanging out at this quintessential small-town bakery enjoying baked goods or indulging in the popular soup du jour. Open at 7:30 a.m. most days, early risers can get a head start choosing from the breakfast menu. The display case is filled with bread, cakes, cookies, croissants and, my personal favourite, Steveston Bakery’s delicious apple pie.

Lovelarte Coffee Inc

5
110-12000 1St Ave, Richmond, BC V7E 3L9

The Sweet Spot is a tiny pastry shop with panache. People travel from far and wide to select from the display cases filled with baked delicacies: mousses, éclairs, cakes, tarts, Viennoiserie, scones, quiche, daily sandwiches and more. Two devoted chefs with impressive credentials work out of the small kitchen (you can view them hard at work from the side window).

Ready to put up a “Kitchen Closed” sign at home and head out for a tasty and budget-friendly meal? The next time you don’t have the energy to cook, leave it to the pros. Steveston offers a wide range of dining possibilities at very reasonable prices.
Steveston has the good fortune of being home to some of Richmond’s finest restaurants. The riverside village is a food lover’s paradise for locally caught seafood (if fish is not your thing, no worries, there are plenty of options). Locals are lucky to able to call these restaurants their neighbourhood haunts, however people travel from far and wide to experience these fine-dining spots.
Whether you are on a mission to find bulgur wheat, curry ketchup or packaged rose petals, Richmond is home to a number of specialty shops that sell unusual edible goodies you may not easily find elsewhere. Visiting these unique grocery stores can also feel like a mini vacation to a foreign land, and that’s always a bonus!
