West Vancouver caters to everyone from local residents to summer hikers and winter skiers to those passing through on the way to the Island. So whether you’re looking for a post-activity meal or something quick when you’re on the go, these awesome burger joints have got you covered.
The first White Spot was opened by Nat Bailey in the late 1920s and has since gone on to become a British Columbia institution. The chain still remains true to its roots, providing high quality, family-friendly fare for all. Of course it has an excellent range of burgers from veggie to all beef, and it’s also the only place in the province where kids’ meals come in a pirate ship!
Located across from West Vancouver’s Ambleside Beach, the Squarerigger is a popular English-style pub. Serving fine ales and a range of simple, classic pub fare, it’s easy to see why people flock to it. They have three awesome burgers on the menu, two of which are made of battered fish — your choice of cod or halibut. If you’re feeling more traditional, try the jumbo all-beef patty topped with cheese.
This established American franchise is still relatively new in Vancouver, but they do make a pretty awesome burger. Crafted to your specifications, these burgers start with a single patty and from there you have the choice to dress it with as many or as few toppings as you’d like. You can even add extra patties if you’re really hungry. You’ll get more burger for your buck here than at any of the usual fast food joints.
A great English-style pub in the heart of West Vancouver’s Dundarave Village, The Red Lion has been serving burgers and pints since 2004. While they have a few burger options on the menu, the standout is their organic beef burger. The patty is made from 100 percent organic non-medicated beef sourced from BC’s Blue Goose Cattle Company. Add on your cheese, bacon, mushrooms or sautéed onions and round it out with fries or a salad.
Look up… look way up! Perched atop Cypress Mountain is the Crazy Raven. Whether you’re looking for an après ski meal or a post-hike burger in the warmer months, there is no better spot in West Van to do so than here. In addition to a solid line up of beers, the wide variety of burgers include vegetarian, chicken and all beef patties, so there’s always something for everyone.
A Bowen Island institution since 1999, Blue Eyed Mary’s has recently upgraded to their current digs on Marine Drive in West Vancouver. They only have one burger on the menu and it’s only available for lunch, but it’s a doozy. Made with a bison patty and then topped with the restaurant’s house-made bacon relish and aged cheddar and served with a side of coleslaw, it makes for one of the best lunches around.
