Sure, Montreal is a great place, especially when it comes to dining. But sometimes, it’s just nice to feel like you’re somewhere else (like say, in the dead of winter). These Montreal hotspots will let you travel to someplace else, or to another time. Come for the food and drinks; stay for the amazing décor – these are Montreal’s best themed bars.
Step inside Jukebox Burger and you’ll immediately be taken back to a classic ‘50s diner, complete with black and white tiled floors, bright red booths, vintage signs on the walls, and of course a large jukebox. Enjoy gourmet burgers, hot dogs, mac ‘n’ cheese, poutiness and more. This throwback shake shack is located in the West Island, but it’s totally worth the trip.
Le Baron Samedi, named after a spirit of Haïtian voodoo, is located a little ways away from the happening bar scene, but it’s worth the trip for the décor alone. The New Orleans-themed bar is filled with old black-and-white pictures, reclaimed wood, Mardi Gras beads and statues of the Madonna. Enjoy reasonably priced drinks, including many varieties of whiskey, and southern-style pub food including pulled pork poutine and fried chicken.
The name of this bar, Ping Pong Club, pretty much sums it up. It’s the perfect place to catch up with friends, catch the hockey game and grab a bite to eat over a friendly game of ping-pong. With meals such as alphabet soup and mac ‘n’ cheese balls, a night here is like returning to your childhood ways, but with an urbane twist.
For a night of mystery, head to Big in Japan bar, located on Saint-Laurent. It doesn’t look like much from the outside, in fact, there is no sign, but don’t let that deter you. Enter and be amazed by the dim lighting and whiskey bottles hung from the ceiling, which give the trendy Japanese bar a certain dark, but romantic feel.
