This place strikes me as the type of place that serves food purely to satisfy some sort of municipal bylaw regarding establishments selling alcohol. That said its a great place to drink, eat elsewhere
Go in the summer for the patio....Its fabulous. Burger lovers rejoice - no fillers, thick and juicy with bacon. Very large portions. Also great is the chicken taco salad.
We visit Port Hope a couple of times a year from Ohio and find it full of great restaurants. The Beamish is a great English Style Pub with a big deck at one end and other sit down dinning rooms at the other. There is a great selection of draft beer. The food is great but can be a little slow when busy. We never have minded waiting for our food when the bar is as friendly as this one. It looks like the meeting place for the locals as everybody knows everybody. The owner even remembered us down to our occupations after a few visits. There are always specials and the soup is to die for. The waitresses are friendly and efficient and if your lucky you may even hear about Kelly's pregnant cat. We always make it our hub with an evening libation before eating there or at another Port Hope restaurant.
Visit every Friday evening. Great Atmosphere, good friends and they even know us when we come in. Can't beat it... much like Cheers... Where everyone knows your name.
this was a going away party. the table was there out side when we arrived the service was quick and friendly. Everyone had plenty of food. Drinks were tasty and well the bill was a great price i have told all of my friends about this resaurant and told them to try it out. Also any outside visitors i have i will for sure take them to the BEAMISH HOUSE. Good people and a nice cosy feel
When a large party of tired cyclists pitched up without warning, the staff of the Beamish House showed themselves as unfailingly friendly and helpful. We found the service unfailingly considerate. I found my food good. I did not order a particularly adventurous menu choice, and I got a well-cooked, tasty dish with a good salad.
Very disappointed in the special. The crust was soggy top and bottom (likely microwaved) and the meat inside was dry. The service was poor. Left to ourselves after the food came for over half an hour.
The food was passable. The service was terrible. We were passing through Port Hope on our way from Montreal to Fergus, Ontario, and stopped there for lunch with our two year old daughter. We were told the Beamish House would be a good, family-friendly place to go for lunch, so decided to give it a try. Because the terrace was crowded and smokey, we decided to eat indoors. Despite the fact that the indoor dining area was empty, when our daughter decided to walk around a little(note: not run, yell, play with stuff on the shelves, or go into the kitchen...literally just stretching her legs after a long car ride) the barman became angry, telling us to keep her at the table. When we spoke to the waitress about this, she said she thought our daughter was remarkably well-behaved, and that she'd had a number of other complaints about the barman. Unfortunately, the barman is also the owner. He seemed pretty chummy with his regulars, but didn't have much patience for anyone with young children. As we were leaving I noticed the barman/owner was pouring himself his third pint of beer. That will teach us for trying to buy lunch at a local restaurant rather than a service centre. Won't be going back there, and wouldn't recommend it to anyone interested in a quiet pub lunch with their family.
Service was poor. The waitress was overworked and rude. The food came in shifts (there were a lot of us) and the folks that ordered burgers got their food LONG after everyone else had finished. The tilapia was cold, and the vegetables were steamed to death (soggy) but also cold. The rice was hardened and cold as well. Overall a terrible meal.
