AJ Woodworth came up with her concept for The Glamoury – her posh beauty studio in Vancouver's Yaletown – during one of her many public appearances as a country music singer.
“I’d have a lot of early morning appearances on the news, and I couldn’t find someone to do my hair and makeup beforehand,” explains AJ, who was B.C.’s Artist of the Year multiple times, and still names music as one of her biggest passions next to makeup.
Dissatisfied with Vancouver’s limited beauty options – including department store counters, which don’t open early, and freelancers who can be understandably pricey – AJ enrolled at beauty school Blanche Macdonald in the hopes of one day opening her own studio. The former country music star cut her teeth at Smashbox and Lancome before debuting The Glamoury in 2016. As unique as AJ herself, The Glamoury is Vancouver’s first hair-and makeup-only studio. “It’s definitely a new concept!” AJ says with a smile.
