We have nothing but the highest praise for the very kind and caring veterinarians at North West Nuclear Medicine for Animals, who recently treated our 12 year old foster cat George. He is now well on the road to full recovery, thanks to the truly fabulous care he received there. We're thrilled that his thyroid levels are now within the normal range, and that he no longer needs any Tapizol. We are beyond grateful to see him looking so happy and healthy.
We had our cat treated here in 2013. We thought she was well cared for during and after the procedure. 3 years later she is happy and healthy! Initially her thyroid looked low, but it rebounded and is now normal. We are so glad we did this for her and we think that the cost of the procedure has paid for itself in the medication and lab work costs. I have no doubt we added years to our cat's life, along with improving her quality of life.
We had the radioactive iodine treatment done here in 2012 to cure our cat's hyperthyroidism. He was dead by year's end. They gave our cat hypOthyroidism. Is hypo-T a risk? Yes. You sign a waiver. But they tell you that feline hypo-T is easily resolved. Not necessarily. And getting them to admit your cat is hypo-T? They didn't even *suggest* our cat might be permanently hypo-T for 5 months.
Also, if they give your cat hypo-T, they don't pay the costs to get your cat back into a normal thyroid state. Costs that they say are around $200 a year. For us? At the time he died, we'd paid $1,000+ in lab work & meds.
If they give your cat hypo-T, they consider your cat "cured." Yes, they said that. Had I known that going in, I would've gone somewhere else.
