Dutch Delicious is a fine Dutch Bakery and European Delicatessen. Before Dutch Delicious came to be, there was Sherbrooke Bakery. Originally the bakery was owned by a Ukrainian baker who started around 1940, on the other side of the traffic circle (the NE side). In 1961 Peter and Josephine Huppelschoten bought the bakery, and slowly added the Dutch groceries to its shelves, besides all the fine Pastries which Peter was used to doing back in the old country. After being in the bakery for 25 years they decided the place was too small and moved to its present location at 13232-118th Ave. Including lots of giftware and the best lunches in town it was a very busy store, well known not only in Edmonton, but also in Red Deer and Calgary. But the time came for them to slow down and they were able to sell the bakery in 2001 to John Vrieselaar and his two sisters Jacqueline and Elizabeth.more...See more text
I don't typically like Black Forest cake .... but my relatives do.
When planning my Easter meal I knew I would have to order one of these cakes somewhere.
I googled bakeries and found Dutch Delicious. They had what I was looking for. Never in my wildest dreams did I ever expect to fall in love with a Black Forest cake. Their cake was exceptional. Perhaps it was the kirsch liquior? Don't know .... but theirs is the best you'll ever find. Yum yum!
Dec3-16 upon walking in to the bakery I saw “Black Pete”. Upon speaking to the owner he&I discussed the racist roots, how the UN et al has called on Netherlands to make changes+. He reiterated his comment that they discussed both sides of the matter & still choose to go ahead with it… I handed him my bought goods saying I cannot take them with me & asked him to donate it to charity. Upon leaving as "blackface" smiled at me I repeated" it's racist!" Authorities et al notified as told to him.
