Mom gave you soup to make you feel better. It’s only natural that you would now crave a comforting bowl of pho. Montreal has tons of great restaurants serving up great bowls of this Vietnamese soup to slurp up. Phos start off with a great broth, rice noodles, and a inexhaustible variety of veggies or meats.
Pho Tay Ho is a great overall Vietnamese restaurant. It’s small size and big-time popularity means it’s often full. This isn’t a surprise given the great selection of pho with lots of greens and herbs. Note that it’s cash only here.
Don’t let the hole-in-the-wall exterior scare you off. This is one of the best pho spots in town. The Vietnamese Spicy Beef Noodle Soup is a definite local favourite and reason enough to plan a visit.
Always packed but with quick service, here is another Montreal pho favourite. The broth is always excellent and the noodles perfectly cooked. Try the Pho Dac Biet, aka the combo with everything.
This place is a Montreal pho institution located right in Chinatown. Very friendly service and a communal set-up where you share your table with fellow diners, makes for a fun time. Add in the spicy pho and the marinated pork and you’ll wonder why you didn’t come here before.
Another big pho competitor right in Chinatown, this place is know for its authentic fare. Some say it is the only place in town that properly adds tendon (if that’s your thing) to their Pho Dac Biet.
I used to live around the corner from here and I have to say this is one of my favourite Vietnamese restaurants in town. They have an extensive menu and the pho is awesome (but the grilled shrimp on sugarcane and the Vietnamese pancake are must-tries too).
