Modern medicine often relies on external solutions, such as drugs, to help the human body get back into optimal shape. However, for osteopath and yoga teacher Xavier Therrien, it is possible to reinforce the body’s natural mechanisms to help bolster its self-healing abilities ― without medicines’ side effects.
“At first, I wanted to be a physiotherapist,” recalls Xavier. “Then, a friend told me about osteopathy, which made me rather suspicious because I found that sort of esoteric. I firmly believe in hard, empirical science.” However, Xavier later turned to this type of alternative medicine after having realized that it is rooted in robust physiological knowledge.
“There are therapists in the field who practice without having completed the proper academic training. To me, it was important to finish the whole four-year program.” Having completed his training, Xavier chose to launch his practice at home. “My office and clinic are located in my apartment, which means I have to operate by appointments.”
