In early 2015, the parents of Yu Dan, a Chinese woman who has lived in Quebec for nearly a decade, came to join their daughter in Montreal. This move helped plant the seed for the family to open a restaurant, a field they knew well since they owned an eatery in China. They wanted to work together, but were hesitant. "We weren't sure if people here would like our food or not," explains Dan.
One day, at the request of a neighbour who was having friends over, they catered the event with their dumplings, prepared simply by tradition. "For us, dumplings are traditional food. We eat them often, at every holiday like the Chinese New Year," says Dan. The dumplings were such a hit, other neighbours began placing orders. The positive response encouraged them to develop their restaurant project, and in December 2015, La Maison de Mademoiselle Dumpling opened its doors in the St-Hubert Plaza. .
