Casa de Mateo opened in 1987 and still provides that special Latin spice and charm to the romantic streets of Old Montreal.
As one of the oldest urban areas in North America, Old Montreal features a mix of restaurants that benefit from the amazing architecture that defines the neighborhood. Casa De Mateo is no exception and its red brick interior adds to the ambience of what is one of the biggest restaurants in Old Montreal.
“We are the only Mexican restaurant in the area,” says manager Fanny Esfahani. “We are also a family restaurant, very casual, and we welcome people of all ages.”
The restaurant, situated in a 200-year-old building, features three large dining rooms and welcomes a mariachi band on Fridays and Saturdays. A cinq à sept Monday to Friday, with deals like ‘buy two drinks and get the third one free,’ is another of the restaurant's features. “It’s a very friendly environment for groups. We recently had a 50-person group from Toronto come in. We get people from all over Canada.”

Located in the Old Port. It was a decent Mexican Restaurant. The service wasn't great but not terrible. The bartender was super nice. She made amazing margaritas. I would recommend if you are in the area and feeling like Mexican. We would return.
