Was excited about the change in ownership but was disappointed. Location is lovely but the food was awful. Escargot is gritty and the chicken supreme tastes like it is raw and burnt at the same time. Mushy, frozen, burnt spinach stuffed inside dry chicken that takes smokey. After two bites, I sent it back. I was still charged for a full meal. I will not be returning. I was super excited as we live on the lake and was hoping to visit this restaurant often on our boat. That will not be happening.
I kept hearing about how great Average Joe's was, so I really wanted to try it out. My first meal was just awful. I ordered gnocchi, which I have never had before, so it might be that I just don't like gnocchi. My husband's meal was quite good. I believe it was a seafood pasta, I kept stealing his food. The second time I went, I went to the jazz night with a group of friends and that was quite fun. We ordered several appetizers. The sweet potato fries and calamari were excellent and the scallops were mediocre. We had a great night.
We decided to go to Average Joes for a shower. The reservation had been booked for about 2 months. I had been excited to have the risotto for about 2 weeks. When we got there we were given a smaller menu, without the risotto or other favourites, such as calamari and the gnocchi. Disappointed, I assumed they had changed the menu, I decided to ask for the specials. I was told by our waitress that they do not offer specials to large groups. Shocked, I settled on fish and chips (which I really did not want). They were mediocre; the batter was way to thick. One of our party also had a gluten allergy. As we found out later, one of the specials was salmon with rice noodles (something that was not offered to her). Upon leaving the restaurant we found the real menu on the other half of the restaurant, with the risotto and the gnocchi! We had been given a condensed menu and we apparently not allowed to order from the other. I was absolutely appalled by our experience. I was forced to order a meal i didn't want and didn't enjoy. My family frequently goes to this restaurant. After this experience I will be suggesting we always go elsewhere.
In spite of the great view, I will always remember the $81 I wasted on the meal and the spotty service. If you are a steak lover, there are one or two better places to go.
Other reviewers are correct, great location, but food quality is inconsistent. We have dined here many times over the years, and it is either a hit or miss. The new chicken with brie entree seemed to be cooked from frozen. The pickerel was mushy, maybe it was from Capt HighLiner. We have reached the end of the road with this place.
Great Location. Food and service barely adequate. You know there's a problem when you remember how much money you spent - and NOT the dining experience itself.
Best experience/dollar in town. Exceptional servers, good food value and terrific ambiance.
I actually had my wedding dinner here. We were satisfied with our meal and the service, however the room set up was not the best we had aprox 20 ppl and we had to sit in little groups and everyones back was to eachother. the room/table set up could have been better. We would have loved to interact with our family and friends a little better then having to get up and walk over to them, not the easiest thing to do in a wedding dress. The wait staff also had a hard time serving us, it was hard to squeeze inbetween the tables and chairs with the food. Other than that it was great. I love the coconut fried chicken. it was amazing!
Average Joe's is really hit or miss. Sometimes the service is great, other times it's not. Same goes with the food. If you are with a large party you'll notice the sides are cold by the time you get your food.
We went in as a party of 6 for my birthday. We had outstanding, immediate service and one of the best meals we've ever had at a restaurant. We had our steaks cooked exactly as ordered, and were delicious. Great atmosphere, beautiful view, great patio in the summer.
Actually there were approx 25 in our group. Service was alright. Food alright. I just don't care for this place. Used to be fantastic not so any more. :(
is there anything that is perfect? well our evening was as close as you can get. we were all very pleased with our evening. the view is something else. great. we will be back .. thanks my friend that had fetticine (as l)said "l'm not really hungry".Ate everything on his plate....
Although the name implies a very casual dining experience, it's actually quite nice inside and we felt a little underdressed wearing jeans. The owner personally seated us and pulled out my chair, which was impressive. The steak was amazing and done perfectly (and I'm picky about steak), veggies were wonderful, not just plain old broccoli and carrots, there was kale and all sorts of yummy extra stuff in it which made it special. The mashed potatoes were a little overwhipped, though, making them taste almost like instant. My husband really enjoyed his pasta, although I found it a little lacking. Creme brulee for dessert was delicious. Service was efficient and very friendly, but not overwhelming. Beautiful view.
Our friends took us out for a dinner to celebrate our recent engagement. I love the stuffed sole and crave it at times! The location is beautiful, right on Trout Lake. Portion sizes are large adn prices are reasonable.
Beautiful setting and we were in no rush to leave. Large quantities, and excellent service.
Excellent, wonderful food and very attentive service.
Beautiful setting on Trout Lake. Lots on menu to choose from, as well as daily specials. Large portions and reasonable prices. They split the large "shared" salad onto 2 separate plates.
The fish came the same shape as a paper towel insert. seems like it was molded from paste. Inside was BLACK and under cooked. all 4 orders. they gave us one order to take home. we left the food on the table paid our over priced bill and departed. will never ever go back there again. the place is going down hill very quickly. the food we took home it went in the garbage. we used to be 4 couples that went there once amonth.NO MORE
