Terrible food served cold.Food used to be ok . Maybe the management has changed. It went from being ok to just terrible.
This place has been in Bradford for so many years that they do not care about the customers anymore. food is very grease and place is so crowded. no privacy, one table right beside the other. Staff rude and food not authentic Mexican....they just don't care about us anymore...time to change Mexican restaurant.
"Reservation" a) An arrangement by which accomodations or space are secured in advance, as in a hotel or restaurant; b) The record or promise of such an arrangement. After venturing into the restaurant one afternoon for a late lunch, and being impressed with the food, we chose to book my birthday dinner at the restaurant for last night (Sat. Dec 29th). My boyfriend made the reservation for 7:00pm, as we wanted to have dinner and hear the band. However, when we arrived at the restaurant, we were one of NUMEROUS groups that had made a reservation - with no possibility of us actually getting a table. One side of the restaurant was secured for a private party, and of the remaining tables on the other side, only one table had just received their food while all other tables had only just received their drinks. It was 5 minutes to 7pm, and there would clearly not be an available table for at least 30 minutes, not to mention, there weren't even enough tables on that side of the restaurant to accomodate ALL of the 7pm reservations. After several minutes of all of us huddled in the doorway (we actually spilled into the restaurant and were infringing on other diners' space), a gentleman with a ponytail - whom I can only assume is either the manager or the owner - came by to ask all of the reservation names again, and proceeded to be quite flippant with my boyfriend, suddenly claiming that he didn't recognize that name as a reservation, then dismissed us. Another member of our group then proceeded to find out that we did, indeed have a reservation - among so many others that would obviously not be accomodated - so we chose to leave. It was now just past 7pm on a Saturday evening, so we made the trek into Newmarket, where approximately 20 minutes after being seated in a different restaurant, we noticed another "reservation" group from Mexicanada walk in. It is sad that a place that we so thoroughly enjoyed the first time round let us down so terribly on such an important evening. They nearly ruined my birthday dinner, but thanks to a more professionally-run establishment, it was salvaged. Mexicanada should really learn and understand the meaning of a reservation, and conduct themselves accordingly.
It is no secret in this restaurant community as to the reason for certain negative reviews. It is just so sad and appalling that this is going on. My only wish is that the reviews being posted by “virtual” customers cease as it is becoming, quite frankly, very tiresome and extremely predictable. Let’s leave this space for “authentic” customers. It is incomprehensible how this continues. When success is achieved through honesty, morals and a strong work ethic it is a shame that those who do not share these qualities try to ride the coattails of those who do and take the low road by continually trying to defame them. I wish the family run La Mexicanada Restaurant continued success. After 9 years of backbreaking hard work and a strong devotion to their customers and paisanos they deserve nothing less. The food is 100% authentic, the recipes are from the owner’s own family, who by the way are an “authentic” Mexican family still residing in “authentic” Mexico. Take the high road and stay classy La Mexicanada Viva La Mexicanada!
Came here to review this local Bradford delight but everyone has it covered. The food is authentic, delicious and plentiful. The music and decor is awesome and I only left a couple stars off atmosphere because the place is small but also tightly packed. I believe this effects their service as well. While I was sitting almost back touching the table behind me, the food made up for this I assure you. Delicious! If you are in the area give it a try.
I have to start by saying I've been to Mexico several times, and never have I had Mexican food this good. From the moment you are greeted, to the time your get your delicious combo platter (which I HIGHLY recommend), you will feel a sense of authentic mexican atmosphere and cuisine. The margaritas are to die for and the nachos will give you a reason to keep coming back, time and time again. This restaurant has flourished and the reason for it being GREAT food, and GREAT staff. La Mexicanada truely is a gem in a small town of big name restaurants that have come and gone. It wouldn't have made it to the Toronto Star if it wasn't worth the drive ;) Don't believe the bad reviews, just get in the car and VAMOS A LA MEXICANADA!!! Thank you LA MEXICANADA for bringing a country I love so much, so close to home :)
We have been going to La Mexicanada for 6 years now, the food & atmosphere is great, Noe and the rest of the staff are always friendly, eager and courteous. The margaritas are made with freshly squeezed limes and are FANTASTIC also try a mexican beer TECATE is also a favorite of mine. We usually start with nachos and quacamole my son and I usually have the platter for two, upsize it if your big eaters or just really hungry. My wife and daughter love the flautas and enchilladas, we always save a little room for churros for dessert. We LOVE this place and go often to celebrate birthdays and anniversaries, we bring friends and relatives and everyone has loved it. Check it out!!! But make a reservation if going on the weekend!
My husband and I and MANY of our friends LOVE LOVE LOVE La Mexicanada! My husband and I order take out often and we love to enjoy a night out at La Mexicanada when ever there is a good excuse...and the food, the margarita's, the atmosphere, and the staff are all wonderful. We have introduced some of our friends from 2 hours away from Bradford and now they will come up to Bradford JUST to eat at La Mexicanada. With our group of friends...we have made it tradition to celebrate at La Mexicanada. My favourite dish is the Tostada's and I LOVE the gaucamole. However, if you aren't sure what to eat you can always have a platter for 1 so you can try four wonderful dishes. These include a tostada, a soft taco, a borrito, and a quesedilla (sorry about the spelling errors). You can choose to have any of these with pork, chicken, beef or vegetarian and you can have them mild, medium, or spicy. I personally love these dishes with chicken and extra spicy with extra quacamole. I also LOVE the strawberry margarita's, my husband LOVES the regular lime margarita's. If you are looking to enjoy some fabulous authentic Mexican food, a great atmosphere with some fun entertainment...then you HAVE to visit La Mexicanda, you will become addicted. When I was pregnant not too long ago, I had to have La Mexicanada food AND often, my dad would tease me and say that our baby was going to come out wearing a sumbrero! A word of advice...if you plan on dining at La Mexicanada make sure you call to make a reservation the tables fill up fast!!
We have been going to La Mexicanada for about six years now and absolutely love it. We go to Mexico every year for vacation and would crave the Mexican spirit and cuisine when not on vacation and La Mexicanada really hits the spot. From the quirky authentic decor, the amazing staff, great drinks and lively music to all the D-E-L-I-C-I-O-U-S food, we just can't get enough!! We live in Toronto and are more than pleased that everyone we recommend it to has already heard of it or been there and loved it. Not only is it a great place for Canadians who want a little piece of Mexico but also the Mexican migrant workers always turn to the owners and staff with their needs whether they be culinary or personal. Love, love, love, love my La Mexicanada! Salud
Authentic? No. Fresh? No. Worth the journey? Oh no. We all want to believe in the mythology around this place: humbly created to satisfy the yearning of migrant Mexican workers for food from their homeland. Trouble is, you will not find a Mexican or Latin patron anywhere here (excluding staff). Frankly, I’ve tasted better Mexican food – fresh, flavourful and rustic - at non-Mexican restaurants in the GTA. Maybe this should be the best Mexican food in the city, but it isn’t. If you’re enticed by the Toronto Star articles then by all means take a trip up the 400 but don’t be disappointed when you arrive - or when you leave. You were warned. I’ve purposely eaten here on different days and at various times, on 3 occasions over the last 12 months. The staff attempts to be hospitable but their enthusiasm starts to grate as the half-melted margaritas disappoint and the food – well it just takes so long to arrive. I appreciate that the kitchen is the size of a master bath and that several of the main courses are prepared “from scratch” (How else would they be?), but a 43 minute wait for a plate of enchiladas is excessive at any time or place. The space itself looks like a Mexican-themed children’s birthday party and the heavy scent of refried oil will live in your clothing for days. What’s more, the majority of local clientele have nothing to compare the fare to, and subsequently filter into this place like lambs. Stuck in the 4’ by 4’ vestibule where we stood for 18 minutes without so much as an acknowledgement, (reservations don’t matter here) I heard a first-time guest say to his friend: “This is the best Mexican food in the city.” Who says? At best, this is the food you are served at truck stops fringing the Mexican/American border – complete with squeeze bottle cheese, warm, store-bought sangria and guacamole that tastes like baby food. Don’t believe the hype.
We frequent this restaurant and it is always warm and inviting. We (my wife and two daughters) have been coming for years and have never had a bad experience. The food is authentic as is the atmosphere. Noe is a great guy and always friendly and accomodating. When we have gone to Mexico we don't eat "American". We eat in local establishments when there, and have similar experiences with the atmosphere (decor, friendly staff) to that of Mexicanada. The food here is, however, what sets it apart. You ask for hot you get hot! This is my favourite restaurant and I would love to see them expand and franchise it but i know that there are pitfalls with such ambitious thoughts. I recommend this place to everyone! If you can get through a lot of food i highly recommend the combo platter so you can get a taste of everything.
Horrible experience. Ordered a Portebello and vegetable sandwich. The sandwich was 90 onions some lettuce and no mushrooms. I sent it back and it arrived with 2 small wrinkly slices of some small type of mushroom, not a Portobello mushroom and more onions. I turned it back and the chef came out and argued with me about what should be in the sandwich. He said sometimes you get mushrooms sometimes you don't. That is not the way it was presented in the menu, it was totally misrepresented. He said too bad for me that is what you get. I asked them to take it back and remove it from the bill. They did do that. I would never go back to this restaurant, It is unimaginable that the Chef would argue with me instead of trying to fix the problem. He was very rude and unprofessional.
this place is absolutely amazing, becoming VERY popular as there is now line ups out the door!!! We had to make a reservation and have now gone back 3 times in a month!
I have to say La Mexicanada is one of my all time favourite restaurants! I can't believe that someone could have something so negative to say about this place. The owners are great! The food is AMAZING! I have been there with large groups many many times and I have been there with just my husband and the quality of the food and service is great every time. If you haven't been to La Mexicanada yet you have to try it. You won't be sorry :) Make sure you make reservations though...it's so delish that it's always packed!! Truly one of Bradford's gems!
Last Sunday, May 30th, 2010, we decided to had a late lunch at Mexicanada on basic of the great old reviews. As entering the restaurant I did stop to read the review at the wall, understanding that the restaurant have been sold for sometime and Mexican customer are not longer visit it. Why??? The picture at the review detail to us that was not server on floor and the owner was looking after the floor. Seating on Costo dirty chairs in a unpleasant, dark & tasteless dinning room with paper " fiesta" decor, we wait for the server / owner to come to our table. The uncomfortable and unfriendly server took our drinks & food orders, we did try to ask for some recommendations, but we got none!, Please we would like a vegetable Tamale but did just got a remark that is not such a thing in Mexico.! My wife and I had the opportunity to travel all over Mexico & assisted to a Culinary School in New Mexico given us a large understanding of the real cuisine of Mexico, we had prep / cooked real Corn Tamales in many part of the country, so his aptitude was really out of place. We did order a Totopos with salsa and guacamole, worn out chips, mayo with chipotle base and pasty guacamole was bring to the table with a nice cool beer. We decided to try the Pork Tamales and was the turning point of the afternoon, microwave it, a few days old tamale was served, Nancy took the firth bite and she had to troughs out in to a napkin, a really unpleasant experience. We decide to try our sample platter with a great respect in what we are going to find, after one of my guest asked to stop eating, we find out pieces of bitter burn peppers and chicken, at this point our meals was over. A "Flan" arrived to the table that it been previous order, one of my guest decided to try it, finding out a heavy quantity of flour in the mix, making it really un-tastefully and heavy. The old days of the Mexicanada are gone, too bad, now we do understand why the mexican clients are not longer visit this spot. Mexico's Cuisine have a great food to offer but you won't find it at Mexicanada.
Fantastic, authentic Mexican food! Even the plates and table cloths are authentic! I am a Mexican food lover and I have been searching high and low all over this Province of ours for great Mexican food. The closest I've come is mediocre Mexican food in Toronto, more like Tex-Mex, which of course is not Mexican at all. La MexiCanada has authentic, MEXICAN food. No Tex-Mex here. I tried several things on the menu...as much as my stomach would hold! :-) I'll be back over and over to try the rest. I started with a chicken Tamale, moved on to a small (which definitely did not look small) Tortilla soup and rounded things out with a Crispy Beef Taco. I think next time I'll order three Tacos, they were great - I just wanted more of them. Everything was timed perfectly and arrived to my table at the ideal temperature. The level of spice was also excellent: I am not one for bland food and generally, I find that when a menu says "spicy", it isn't. For dessert, I had freshly made Churros - still hot! Another Mexican delicacy. The owners, Noe and Debbie were friendly, very accommodating and provided great service. The dining room itself isn't the fanciest place I've ever been to, but the food far outweighs it. If you like Mexican food, great, authentic Mexican food like I do, get in your car now and head to Bradford. Grab a table in La MexiCanada and enjoy! You won't regret it and chances are very high that you will not have experienced this kind of authenticity outside of Mexico! Their hours are: Sunday 12-7 Monday Closed Tuesday 4-8 Wednesday 12-8 Thursday 12-8 Friday 12-9 Saturday 12-9
We traveled from Arizona to Newmarket July 25th to attend a family reunion. I had heard about this restaurant so we decided to go for dinner Friday night. I am from the area but live in Arizona now and my wife is Mexican born in Arizona. The food was the best we have ever had away from home. Cooked to perfection and served hot ready to eat. A lot of "Mexican" food is so spicy it is almost inedible and leaves a taste in the mouth. This was perfectly spiced. It had a bite with no after burn. Just the way it should be. Our host was very pleasant and took the time to chat with us and make us feel at home. We will definitely go back again next time we are in the area.
My husband and I travel to mexico quite alot and this by far is the best Mexican cuisine you will find outside of mexico!! The food is always authentic and amazing, my kids 3, 7, 9, 11 love the kids rice and chicken and the Mexican pop. This restuarant is a family favorite for our families birthdays and we always get extra special service and sombreros to celebrate with. The staff is amazing. If you want authentic mexican cuisine in an authentic mexican atmosphere, that is affordable, this is the restaurant for you.
I have been visiting La Mexicanada for a few years now. I have been to Mexico many times and this is by far better than anything I have ever had elsewhere. Don't expect FAST FOOD, this is a REAL restaurant where they actually cook REAL food from scratch, they don't pull it out of a package (like 99% of restaurants). They have great Mexican drinks including beer, margaritas and authentic Mexican pops, no fountain pop with free refills here! I recommend you try the Tecate Beer it's my favourite. Everyone is really nice, you will always feel welcome. The service is great! I recommend this place to everyone! By the way, Noe the owner is not too sore on the eyes either!
The best Mexican food I ever had, very busy all the time. Hard to get in. We sometimes order for take-out!! Owners are great people!!
